Carolinas Chapter March 2019 Meeting
Wednesday, March 20, 2019, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT
Category: Chapter Meeting

The HTCIA Carolinas Chapter will hold its first meeting of 2019 as a web-based event on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, from 12 noon to 1 PM EST.

HTCIA was formed in response to the industry’s need to train and develop expertise in investigating high technology crimes. By providing compelling training content through both physical and web-based chapter meetings, it is hoped that the Chapter can meet those objectives. We also hope that the convenience of web-based meetings encourages active participation by our members and attracts new members from both law enforcement and industry from across the region.

AGENDA:

Rick Matthews, Lecturer, Computing Sciences at Coastal Carolina University and Malware Analyst at WetStone Technologies will be presenting “An Introduction to Cuckoo Sandbox”.  Learn what a sandbox is, why they are useful for malware analysis, and why you may want to run your own sandbox over using commercial or online services (cost, confidentiality, control).  Specifically, we will discuss Cuckoo Sandbox, an open source sandbox utilizing a number of other open source projects to provide automated malware analysis.  Cuckoo Sandbox is very flexible and can be configured based on the environment.  It is able to analyze many different file types like executables, office documents, pdf files, emails, as well as URLs. Cuckoo reports provide details on API calls, network traffic, and memory forensics, as well as other information. Cuckoo can perform the malware analysis of a sample in a VM running one of these OS’s: Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and Android.
