Topic – Ransomware

The landscape of cyber incidents and ransomware continues to evolve- 2019 is likely the worst year on record for data breaches, with over 7.9 billion records exposed to bad actors. The sophistication of ransomware continues to grow, without any signs of slowing down in the near future. During this presentation, we’ll discuss the current landscape of cyber incidents, response strategies, and common pitfalls to avoid to minimize your exposure and risk.


Shawn Fohs, Managing Director, Forensics- Privacy & Cyber Response and Joe Pochron, Senior Manager, Forensics- Privacy & Cyber Response


Shawn is a Managing Director in the Forensic & Integrity Services practice and is the Privacy and Cyber Response Leader. He has over 15 years of experience in investigations, cybersecurity and data analytics. Shawn has experience leading multiple teams of investigators, providing oversight on investigations, consolidating the results and providing quality control. He has led the planning, coordination, and execution of many investigations in large-scale IT environments and overseen thousands of collections and subsequent analysis of computer, network and mobile devices.

Joe Pochron is a Senior Manager in EY’s Forensic & Integrity Service Practice, based in San Francisco, CA. Joe’s expertise is in digital forensics and cyber response, helping EY clients on complex cyber investigations and cyber incidents response needs. Joe has over 18 years of combined experience in digital forensics, cybercrime investigations, eDiscovery, and cyber incident response. During that time, he has investigated or managed thousands of cases involving the collection and analysis of computers, mobile devices, networks, and cloud-based data. Joe has testified numerous times in local, state, and federal legal matters as a digital forensic expert. Additionally, he frequently provides expert affidavits or expert forensic reports for clients in support of digital forensic analysis or cyber investigative needs.
